Mixed Media Canvas - Sweet Memories

Good morning friends, followers and visitors. Hope you're all having a good day.
I'm so excited to share my very first try at making a mixed media canvas! I've been dying to try my hands at scrapbooking and mixed media for like ever, and a couple of days ago I finally sat down and created this:
mixed media canvas
An old photo of my mother and I around 1998. My canvas had to have a vintage theme!

I started out with an 8x8 Artist canvas and added two shades of brown paint to the edges.
I then smudged the paint with my fingers blending it more towards the center.

When everything was dry, I applied Mod Podge to some random areas and added some old book pages, corrugated cardboard, and tissue paper to create some texture, and then I gave them a wash of brown again, using my watercolors.

Next, I glued some brown stretch lace I've had for a long time and a beautiful lace trim I got from Wholeport.com
I also used a lot of rub-ons from K&Company. Links for everything I've used at the bottom of the post.

And my favorite part, the flowers! The beige roses are handmade, and the large satin flower is from my stash. I arranged my flower cluster on just one side of the photo.

I hand-cut a little banner and stuck it under the photo with a LSD for added dimension. Don't you just love the alphabet stickers from K&Company? I know I do!

Finally, I randomly splattered the canvas with a brush wet with brown paint and added sprinkles of gold glitter here and there.

Here's one last closeup:

I had so much fun getting messy with this piece. Keep an eye on the blog, there sure are many more mixed media canvas projects to come!

Until next time, stay safe!
